Nominated for the Hamilton Arts Innovator Award in 2017 and 2018, Jolanta Oko is the Founder and Director of Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education. She holds a BFA and MA in Dance from York University and is a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program. Jolanta holds her Associates Diploma from the Cecchetti Society of Canada and is an Ontario Certified Teacher. Jolanta has directed professional dance teams across Ontario and danced professionally in the CFL, NAFL, CSL, USL, and MSL. She has a plethora of experience in the dance world having been a dance teacher for 22 years, a studio owner for 8, and a school teacher for 12 years. She has travelled across Canada facilitating Dance Educator Conferences and Workshops for School Boards, Dance Studios, Dance Studio Owners, Dance Teachers, and School Teachers. She is the author of over 10 Dance Resources, designed to help Dance Educators both in the Studio and School Board sectors deliver a 21st-century dance education to their students. Going into the 3rd year as Founder/Director of Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education she is proud to acknowledge our global alumni community.
Sarah Murphy-Dyson is a former first soloist with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. After retirement she was cast in the North American premier of Dirty Dancing with Mirvish which brought her to Toronto. She has appeared in shows such as Suits, Diggstown, Rookie Blue, the Next Step and even appeared in the American Girl Movie. She has won a Gemini Award and holds a BFA in theatre from the University of Winnipeg. Dyson has worked as a stunt double for Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale and Jaime King.
Marcia is a dancer, choreographer, collaborator and educator with over 25 years teaching experience. She studied contemporary dance at McMaster University’s Centre for Dance Performance and at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre’s summer intensives for teacher training. Marcia is a founding director of Connection Dance Works, a professional contemporary dance company. She has a bachelor of education and science along with certifications in Progressing Ballet Technique and Horton Technique and is a recent graduate from Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education’s Dance Teacher Training Program.
Martha Morrison is an award-winning, certified American style ballroom dance instructor who has worked for major dance companies such as Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Canada. Martha has won medals in the professional divisions in both rhythm and smooth at Canadian competitions and competed internationally in teaching techniques, specializing in the new student experience. Martha is a graduate of Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education’s Professional Dance Teacher Training Program.
Nupur is trained is various styles of Indian Classical Dance. She is a graduate of Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education’s Dance Teacher Training Program and the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She is currently a dance educator and choreographer at Aditya Dance Academy in Surrey, BC.
Meagan Speakman is a passionate dancer, choreographer, and instructor based in Toronto, Ontario. She is the Coach and Head Choreographer for the Toronto Rock Cheerleaders, as well as the Coach for the Toronto Wolfpack Dance Squad. Meagan graduated from the Commercial Dance Program at George Brown College before taking Lindsay Ritters Scholarship Dance Program working with many industry professionals.
Stacey smith has been teaching dance for over 25 years. Her love for dance started when she was just five years old and went to her first dance class. She has since trained in many styles of dance across Canada and the US, at workshops, conventions, and competitions. Ms Smith has taught at many studios across southwestern Ontario, where she has shared her love for dance. Her students have won many awards across Canada and the US. Some of her dancers have also gone on to perform professionally.
